MOCIS, AEC Slovenj Gradec is a public institute founded by the City Municipality of Slovenj Gradec. Through great and recognisable work, the Centre outgrew the municipal boundaries and became a key driver of development and implementation of lifelong learning strategies in the Koroška region. MOCIS is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

We know that an educational institution’s success is critically dependent upon quality educational and guidance services and the satisfaction of participants, partners and employees, which is why we dedicate a great deal of attention to strengthening and developing quality.

We have been true to the development of quality since 2005, which was the first time we took part in the OQEA national project, thereby gaining the right to use the Green quality logo. By participating in the project, we acquired the knowledge necessary to develop a comprehensive approach to evaluation and development of quality in AE. We have been able to maintain the level of quality throughout the years and can thus regularly renew the right to use the Green quality logo, which stands for educational organisations that systematically manage their quality and the quality of their services in AE.

Since concern for quality and the satisfaction of participants remain our two key principles, we continue to run our comprehensive quality management and monitoring system even after the OQEA project has ended, as dictated by adult education trends. We aim to provide the best conditions for work and for personal and professional growth to participants of educational programmes, employees, partners and external associates. This commitment is included in our vision, mission, values and our quality charter and declaration.

In the spring, we confirmed the quality logo for the second time. Preparing the documentation was easier this time around due to our past experience, and because we were familiar with the process and how it all works. The app in which the documentation to receive or extend the right to use the Green quality logo can be submitted is incredibly convenient and was of great assistance. We commend and thank everyone who developed it as well as all the SIAE education professionals who are always there for us and provide assistance in critical moments.

Everyone at MOCIS actively participated in this extension, i.e. in preparing the relevant documentation. This shows that all employees, including our external professional associates, are involved in quality assurance to the extent that quality has become a constant in our way of thinking and working. This task has once again demonstrated that many hands make light work. We even managed to submit the Green quality logo extension application a day or two before the deadline and thus got ahead of the complicated situation with the COVID-19 epidemic. In the spirit of doing quality work, we have, through efficient organisation and teamwork, achieved our common goal of submitting a complete application on time. The SIAE committee commended our application and went even further and highlighted our self-evaluation report as an example of best practice from which other adult education providers can learn a lot. It has been published as an example of best practice on the Quality Mosaic online portal (in Slovenian).

We kept our concern for the development of quality even during the new coronavirus lockdown. We provided services, information and guidance to our clients and participants during the entire period. In order to achieve this goal, new work approaches and processes were developed, and all employees became participants in lifelong learning, as we were learning about information and communication technology that enabled us to work.

On the basis of evidence of past work related to quality, our right to use the Green quality logo was extended until 31 March 2023. We now continue to realise our mission and our slogan “May learning flow through life” through our daily work.
