In the Study Circles project, we found that the male population is significantly underrepresented in ALE. Therefore, we identified it as an area deserving of additional effort in future activities and Erasmus+ projects.
At Žalec AEC, with the support of the public institution Youth Centre Žalec and the local Zero Waste initiative, we engaged young men up to the age of 35. Using an anonymous online questionnaire specifically designed for this purpose, we first raised awareness about dietary habits and the importance of healthy eating, locally produced food (focusing on ingredient origin and quality) and preserving traditions relevant to the region and modern times.
In an appealing setting and nature – on a terrace – we explored the preparation of healthy and, above all, sustainable meals and side dishes on the grill. Following the principle of zero waste, we aimed to use everything without generating food waste. We relied heavily on improvisation, drawing inspiration from the creativity of the participants. Under the guidance of a young chef, we learned how to prepare nutritious, locally sourced meals and compiled the recipes into a digital cookbook (in Slovenian). We also visited a family-owned local brewery and gained insight into the entrepreneurial aspect. Furthermore, we promoted intergenerational cooperation and regional networking, connecting young people with various stakeholders in the field of tourism.
The project culminated in a final presentation event – a gathering with residents and stakeholders.
