Thirty years have passed since Slovenia’s independence; therefore, the round number anniversary is being celebrated this year by many institutions that have started operating because we citizens need them. The library profession is no exception. Until recently, the professional magazine Library News was published in print. By moving online, using a Creative Commons license, it has become available for other interested public to read it.
In the presentation, they wrote that they want to go beyond the print edition and offer content in a different way, freely accessible and free of charge. The website (in Slovenian) provides a variety of news, information, invitations and calls, reports, tips, examples of good practice and many valuable links. During the time of distance education, we can view videos of events we may not have been able to attend. However, they also remain a professional magazine, and they still publish longer professional articles like in the print edition. The entire archive has also been transferred to the website.
They promote their posts on FB and are consequently drawing attention to exciting events in the library and other professions at home and in the international environment.
We create the portal together with you, having you in mind, and we will be grateful for your responses, opinions, wishes and suggestions.
The library profession offers a ‘public good’. We, therefore, welcome the decision of the National and University Library and the Editorial Board to open the doors of the Library News widely. Reading and learning go hand in hand, so the portal is also attractive for all of us interested in ALE.
