The Survey of Adult Skills – PIAAC (2016) in Slovenia was the basis of many important studies published by the SIAE from 2016 to 2021. In the publication Findings from the Survey of Adult Skills – PIAAC in Slovenia – summaries of research and studies, we summarise as many as 22 scientific contributions by Slovenian authors and present selected proposals and recommendations.
Many years of research into adult skills in Slovenia from different angles shed light on the issue of the quality of human capital of the working population of adults and, indirectly, the effectiveness of the education system in Slovenia. Exploration into adult skills within international research has undoubtedly contributed to a better understanding of this phenomenon in Slovenia. Empirical data and research findings can be the basis for preparing measures to improve the social position of vulnerable groups of adults and for their integration into lifelong learning and society.
The publication Findings from the Survey of Adult Skills – PIAAC in Slovenia – summaries of research and studies (in Slovenian) draws the content from previous publications. The summaries of the studies are divided into three sections: developing skills in children, youth and adults, the development of work-related skills and the non-economic effects of developed skills. In addition, the highlights of the studies, selected proposals and recommendations are emphasised. We hope that the booklet of summaries will make it easier for a wider circle of experts to access original studies and results as well as contribute to the transparency of the latter.
