This is the second time that the nation-wide campaign, devoted to promotion of reading, has started. The special feature of the successful Slovenian campaign is an invitation to read together. It started on 8th September, international literacy day, and it will end on 13th October, marking the end of an annual programme ‘Week of a child’. SIAE has joined the campaign as a partner and once again the president Borut Pahor supported the joint reading initiative as the honorary patron.
Renowned Slovenian illustrators, who contributed copyright illustrations, joined the campaign as ambassadors of the promotion of reading for all generations. This year, the Month of Joint Reading is marked by some new postcard images.
Lifelong learning is the key to a quality life for all individuals. It is enabled by the awareness-raising of a reading culture and adult literacy. This is why adult education organizations are encouraged to join the national campaign for the promotion of reading and place their activities in the local environment within the framework of the nationwide campaign. Joint reading activities may attract new learners and may lead to new educational forms of work with adults.
During the first year we recorded more than 700 events throughout Slovenia and the wider region. The success of last year’s campaign encouraged and motivated all involved to propose the nationwide campaign as an annual national reading initiative.
