As part of the Awareness-raising for Lifelong Learning project and its Lahko.si campaign, events for adults aged 65 and over were held across Slovenia in the first half of the year. Their aim was to encourage active ageing, greater participation in lifelong learning and stronger social inclusion. Through the You Can Be Part of It public call, selected local organisations created opportunities for participants to strengthen their digital, health-related and other practical skills while gaining knowledge that supports everyday life.

In Trbovlje, the 65+ So What! You Can Be Part of It event brought together workshops on road safety, artificial intelligence, physical activity, creativity and healthy living. Organisations providing education and support for older adults also presented their activities. The event was organised by the Zasavje AEC.

Dedi in babi hekatlon

This was followed by the intergenerational Grandma and Grandpa AI HECatlon, organised by the Celje School Centre. Together with secondary school students, participants explored practical applications of artificial intelligence in everyday life.

Lahko.si Expano

On 21 May, the Slovenian Coalition for Public Health, Environment and Tobacco Control, a non-governmental humanitarian organisation, organised the You Can Be Part of It! Together Connected for Longevity event at the Expano Pavilion in Murska Sobota. The event was intended for adults aged 65 and over from the Podravje and Pomurje regions. It focused on healthy lifestyles, physical and mental wellbeing, as well as strengthening reading and digital literacy.

KOTA 92 organised the event You Can Be Part of It! Curiosity, Learning and Creativity Never Retire. The event introduced older adults to opportunities for learning, socialising, networking and active participation in their communities. Through discussions and presentations of good practices, participants explored a range of inspiring topics.

These events show that learning can continue to open doors to new opportunities, personal growth and meaningful connections well beyond the age of 65. We look forward to more such experiences in the autumn.
